Getting Started

STEP 1. Do you already have an affiliate account with ClickBank? If yes, you should already have what they call a "nickname", skip to Step 2 below. If not, or if you you're not sure, continue here. Sign up as a ClickBank affiliate: click here. Remember to write down your "nickname" which is your unique ID in ClickBank, and your password. Also, it is important to use a working email.

YOU NEED ONLY ONE NICKNAME. You can use your one nickname to promote Water4Gas,Water4Gas4Trucks, or both.


STEP 2. Now create a "hoplink", which is the link that takes your customer to our website, and automatically credits you with the commission for that referral.

How to make a "hoplink":

You don't have to go anywhere to create a hoplink. You can do it on a piece of paper. The idea is just to get the exact format. To promote Water4Gas or Water4Gas4Trucks, your hoplink must be in the following format:

STEP 3. Now incorporate your "hoplink" into your marketing campaign.

Promoting a hoplink may be done in many different ways. For example: let's say your nickname is "lessfuel" and you're placing a classified ad in the Los Angeles Times, you'd say something like this in your ad:

"Sick and tired of crazy fuel prices?
Visit  http://lessfuel.water4gas.hop.clickbank.net"

OPTIONAL: How to add a "Tracking Id" to your hoplink:

Tracking ID is a code you can incorporate into every promotion you do. It helps you identify how many buyers came from a specific ad, so you'll know if that ad was worth the effort or cost. To format your hoplink with a tracking code, use this format:

The tracking code (which is "12345678" in the example above) can be 1 to 8 characters long, containing alpha and numeric characters only (tracking codes longer than 8 characters will be truncated). Tracking codes with upper and lower case characters will be recorded by ClickBank as all uppercase. Any tracking code containing characters other than alpha or numeric values will have the entire tracking code removed from the process and will not show in the transaction report (you still get your money, you just lose tracking of where it came from).

The idea of a tracking code is to help you compare your campaigns. The word "campaign" might sound too big. But you see, YOU DO have several "campaigns" if you really look at it. For instance when you give out a card in the street, that's a different route than sending emails, right. Now you have two campaigns already. You want to use tracking so when you log into your ClickBank account, you'll be able to know which "campaign" yields the most responses and profits.

Someone asked me: "How do I make a tracking ID?" Well, Tracking ID is something you make up. Within the 8-letter/number limit, you just invent something.For example, you would write down your copybook:

Now you look at your statistics, when you log into your ClickBank account (https://www.clickbank.com/login.htm). Analyze the results: let's say the code for LA Times shows 500 visitors, then each visitor cost you 7.4 cents. If San Diego Journal brought 50 visitors, then each one cost you 50 cents - which means it was not worth it, despite the cheaper cost of placing the ad.


You can see how many came from your business cards, flyers, etc. Remember that promotions that cost no money, still cost you time. Harder to calculate by the penny, but you can still evaluate the results against the value of your time.

 

STEP 4. Now you can start marketing, using your hoplink. All you have to do, basically, is promote your hoplink one way or the other. Just make it known to as many people as possible. The reason I'm not going to go into details here is this: many good books have been written on this subject, and you can find some of these books in your local library or in our AFFILIATE TOOLBOX.

One tip in particular: It is useful, but not mandatory, to have a SHORT "URL". URL, in simple words, is any website address, and you want it to be short and easy to dictate and print. For example instead of this long one...
http://myownnickname.water4gas.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=12345678
...you want something short and sweet like (examples only) Help4Gas.com or CarBurnsWater.com or Water2Fuel.com, etc.

These simple web addresses are called "domain names". You buy them and they are your "domain", and you can then direct them at any web page you choose. In this case you want your domain to point at your hoplink (how to do it? I'll show you in a minute).

A short URL is very useful when you can place it on business cards, street banners, newspaper ads, car stickers, etc. It's also good for emails and for dictating over the phone.



  • The best and most professional way to make a short URL is buy your own "domain name" from www.GoDaddy.com - it costs under $10/year. You don't need anything else from them but the $10 domain, so don't be tempted to all the other offers they have. If $10 is too much for you, skip this section - there is an option below that is free (but not as good as GoDaddy).

  • In the box below I'm assuming that...
    you have already purchased your own domain name from GoDaddy. If not, go ahead and get one www.GoDaddy.com




    AFTER YOU HAVE PURCHASED A DOMAIN NAME FROM GODADDY: If you don't know how to use GoDaddy control panel to forward (redirect) your domain name to your hoplink, here's a workable process:

    • Login to GoDaddy (again, this is just an example).

    • After login you have a link on the right side "my account", click it.

    • Under "my products" select "manage domains".

    • You should enter an area called "domain manager".

    • Click the domain name on the list under "domain name".

    • In the main menu there will be an icon (green arrow) titled "Forward". Click it.

    • Now you have three green tags: forwarding, masking, help.

    • In the "forwarding" tag choose "enabled".

    • In "forward to" line, type your COMPLETE ClickBank hoplink (the one you've created in previous steps).

    • Under that, select "301 Moved Permanently" - I'm not sure if this is critical, but just for completeness mark this too.

    • In the "masking" tag (I recommend) select "mask domain" - this means that what the visitor will see is YOUR domain (such as water4petrol.com) instead of the hoplink.

    • OPTIONAL: in the "title" box add a short website title, such as "run your car on water" or something like that, no longer than 10-12 words in all.

    • OPTIONAL: in the "keywords" and "description" boxes add keywords and description as you like. This is important for the search engines. For best results use words that actually appear on the page (water4gas.com) such as hydrogen, fuel, gasoline, water, car, etc. This part can be longer than the title, about 150-200 characters in all for the keywords, plus 150-200 characters in all for the description.

    • Click the orange OK button.

    • If you're getting an error message, check what went wrong. Especially the forwarding link must be clean, which is to say no extra spaces, correct spelling - verify every dot and every character carefully.

    • Once you have that done, wait for activation (a few hours, I think).

    • Check your domain name for proper function. Type it in any browser - it should display your Water4Gas sales page. To go to Water4Gas4Trucks, they just need to click the truck photo at the top of the first page.




  • $10 too much for you right now? There is a way to do get a short URL (web address) for free - visit tinyURL.com to make your short URL totally FREE. It doesn't give you a domain (such as Help4Gas.com), but it does give you a nice shortcut. It is reliable and ad-free.

    You just enter your long hoplink (copy and paste to avoid mistakes) and get a short one that does the same job. It may be something like (example) http://tinyurl.com/6

    A bit more advanced: since ClickBank lets you use the powerful TrackingID feature for free, why not make several hoplinks for your various campaigns? Since tinyURL.com is free and unlimited, you can create as many hoplinks as you have "campaigns", and use each one on its own. For example your card will have http://tinyurl.com/6 but your car sticker/magnet will say http://tinyurl.com/118

    Write down a list of when and where you placed each ad, what was the Tracking ID and how much money/time was invested in it, so you can compare that later against the results.


STEP 5. IMPORTANT - Submit your domain name to the search engines so you can be found! Here's a free tool to reach all the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN (from them it will eventually go into AOL as well)  http://FreeWebSubmission.com

Not recommended if you do not already have a website.
